Patriotic Perfection

Barbeques, picnics, parades with antique cars and fun floats, free concerts, family gatherings, patriotic outfits, games of frisbee on the lawn, beach walks, happy people on vacation, fireworks*, sleepy eyed kids looking up at the sky, couples holding hands on blankets...

*What are the chances my shots of the fireworks tonight come out as stunning as the one pictured above? Hmmm...a girl can always dream.

Even though today marks the landslide into the second half of the summer, I adore the 4th of July. Our celebration this year will be nice and low-key; I'm a big fan of the minimal fuss and maximum fun surrounding this holiday. In the spirit of relaxation, I let myself linger over my festive bowl of cereal for half of the morning to admire the gorgeous themed desserts the blog world has cooked up this year.

1 Cup of Oat Squares with Strawberries, Bananas, and Blueberries

Writers, mothers, new wives, photographers, athletes, bakers, aspiring chefs...The amount of talent and passion out there is staggering! I was astounded to find (after my little morning of "research") how many bloggers excel at wearing more than one hat. I was hard pressed to single out my favorite 4th of July dessert...but if you have some extra time this afternoon, try whipping up one of these red, white, and blue cakes! They're almost too pretty to actually think about eating.

Which cake wins your vote?

1. Ricotta Cheesecake (topped with fresh blueberries and a strawberry star) from My Baking Addiction

2. Berry Vanilla Ice Cream Cake from Annie's Eats

3. Red White and Blue Cake from The Busty Baker

4. Festive Fruited Cheesecake Flag from Mel's Kitchen Cafe

Happy 4th!
